Posted 04/02/2019
The West Cowboys JROTC Raider Team competed in the Denver All City Raider Competition at Lincoln High School on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.  There were six female four person teams and 16 male teams from all 10 Denver High Schools who competed.  The five events that the teams competed in were the HMMWV Pull, the one mile run, the 200 meter litter carry loaded with 100 pounds, the obstacle course, and the Centipede, which is and event with two eight foot planks and the four person teams have to move all as one for 50 yards.
The Cowboys Girls Raider Team consisting of Erika David (Captain), Sincerity Sandoval, Arianna Lopez, and Layla Lucero took 1st place in the inaugural year for female teams at the Raider Competition.  The following are comments from Erika David:  “This Raider Competition was extra special since it was the first Raider competition with a Girls Division, as we appreciated getting the same attention or being on par with the boys.  When LTC Osterholzer announced that we won first place, every bit of me wanted to cry with joy!  I was so extremely proud of my team, as we had worked very hard to achieve first place.”
West had two male teams that competed and they took 2nd and fourth place, so all teams did very well.  The West Mixed Raider Team of six males and four female has qualified for the National Raider Competition hosted at Daytona Beach, FL the weekend of May 4th, which will include a visit to Disney World.  CSM Darrin Kinder is the coach of the West Raider Team and has done an outstanding job with the team!  Go Cowboys!!
